Process Facilitation Basics – Group Dynamics – IMGD Model– Roles Of Members and Leaders

I promised to give you more than One Model for group Dynamics. I remember that promise and after discussing about the role of members and leaders in relation to the IMGD Model I will give you some more models of group dynamics. Lets see the roles of Effective membership and leadership in connection to the group dynamic model that we discussed last time. Effective Membership Members in any group are responsible for the group. It is up to them to make or break the dynamics. I studied and acted upon some key points during my group work and internship. Following are the examples/key points for different situations. Members should remember these points and act accordingly for the best possible outcomes of the group work. These points can help groups to achieve the highest stage in IMGD Model. Members encourage the process goal, role and task clarification. Members do not blame each other, or the leader, for group problems. Members encourage the adaptation of an open communication structure where all member input and feedback is heard. Members promote an appropriate ratio of task and supportive communication. Members are aware of and promote effective problem solving and decision-making procedures. Members encourage the establishment of norms that support productivity, innovation, freedom of expression. Members discourage any group tendency to over-legislate individual behavior through the adaptation of excessive or unnecessary norms. Individuals voluntarily...

Process Facilitation Basics – Group Dynamics – Integrated Model Of Group Development – Final Part

In part 1 of Integrated Model Of Group Dynamics (IMGD) I shared first two stages of the model. Which are Dependency and Inclusion and Counter-dependency and Fight. New readers please go back to the part 1 and the old users lets start from where we stopped. Today we look at the remaining 3 stages of IMGD. We will start with Trust and Structure.  Trust and Structure This is the 3rd stage of group development and I would like to pay extra attention to this stage. I have written some key points and in my opinion these points best explain this stage. These key points are for the general purpose and leaders and members both gets benefited from these. Members of group that successfully work through conflicts and differences of opinion (stage 2) establish a commitment and trust in one another, mutual dependency. The need to mark territories and their own position or unique skills are shifted into the background. And the need to focus on the task comes to the fore. Communication becomes open and task oriented. This third stage of the group’s development is characterized by mature negotiation on tasks and roles, organisation and methods for completion of tasks. This is a stage where group trusts in each other and the more focus is now on the task at hand. All the skills are being focused on the development of the work. Communication...
