Process Facilitation Basics – Reflection

Lets start with recap on Content and Process Method. Every work has a number of aspects to consider. These aspects are: What is the goal, what is to be achieved? Which assignments or tasks do we need to complete in order to reach the goal? Which work processes or models will help achieve the goal? Who are ’we’ that shall reach the goal? How can we measure the end result? How do we know we have achieved the goal? How will we evaluate? Concerning goals, tasks, processes and results Now let us get right to the Reflection. Reflection is a cool tool to have in your bag. Reflection is done individually and then can be shared with the group. Here I will give you some tips that you can follow and then all you have to do is to practice this tool a lot. Every night just spend 5 minutes on Reflection and You yourself will feel a difference and Change in your life. This is a 3 step process that I use myself. Reflection in a group paves the way for collaborative learning as everyone shares their experiences of the previous events and days with each other. The dialogue in the reflection provides you with the opportunity to reinforce your experiences but also to get a chance to access other perceptions from the rest of the group. This...

Process Facilitation Basics – Experiential Learning

Last time we watched a video. Now I want you to think about it and reflect on the purpose of that inspiring video. You can try to think about WHY, CONTEXT, ENVIRONMENT. In the video there is something about Believe. What is it all about? And tell me which is right: I of Dream Speech? I of Plan speech? I have another small task for you. Reflect on Three things that makes me (here it refers to you) WHO I AM? Those of you who haven’t tried reflection questions. Please at this stage go back to the earlier posts and find the questions in the beginning of the posts and try to reflect on them. Energizer: Find the ZHABA (frog) – Find in 10 minutes the most beautiful ZHABA (frog) on Internet. This is a small exercise to refresh your mind and after finishing this start reading below. Have a nice reading session. Lets start now on Experiential Learning. This is also the very important and basic part of Process Facilitation. It is a common observation and you all will agree that knowledge is continuously gained through both personal and environmental experiences. In Hyper Island term or as we say in Hyper Island ‘Learning By doing’. What will we get when we learn? We get an experience. In order to gain genuine knowledge from a learning experience certain abilities are required....

Process Facilitation Basics – Content and Process Model

As usual I will start with some more reflection questions. I assume that You have read the previous blog about Human Relations and communication so now its time to reflect. You can share your reflections in the comment section below or keep them with your personal use. But do spend time on reflections. The Questions are: What behaviors Help/Hinder the group to maximize the learning? What did I hold back from doing/What stopped me? What Can I do to get more out of the team building for others/for myself? How Can I apply what I learned in other situations? You can also try to reflect on the questions in the previous post. Once again this is the most important part of Facilitation and I want you to spend some alone time with these questions and really reflect. Content and Process Model Today I will discuss the difference between content and process. Every project is divided into these 2 parts. Most of us neglect the Process part and just focus on the Content. Being Facilitator you need to focus more on the Process. Let me explain these visually. Process Facilitation Basics – Content and Process Model Every project has a start, middle and an end. Content and Process are the middle parts. Content is WHAT the project is all about and Process is HOW to do the project. It includes...

Process Facilitation Basics – Human Relations and Communication

Welcome back to the next blog post in the series of Process Facilitation Basics. Before we start I have few Questions from the previous blog post “Process Facilitation Basics – Base” that I want you to reflect on. The reflection is a crucial part in the Facilitation and I just want you to start reflecting upon what you have read earlier. Obviously I will be describing Reflection in the coming blog posts. You can write down the answers of the following questions in the comment section below or you can keep them and don’t share. I am happy as long as you try to reflect. Q No 1: What happened when you read the post? Q No 2: What did you feel about it? Q No 3: What did you learn from it? Q No 4: What did you learn about yourself? Q no 5: What did you learn about others? Q No 6: What did you learn about the group? Above questions are for all sort of people. Try to answer as many questions as you can and before you answer reflect upon your answers and than write. Now back to today’s topic that is Human relations and Communication. When we work in a team we communicate to move forward. Process Facilitation helps to ease the process of communication and allows you to ask relevant questions. Communication is...

Process Facilitation Basics – Base

Base Before I start I just want to mention that I am writing about my studies and experiences here as a Learning Design and Facilitator and you can learn from it. I will be happy to communicate about my writing and lets see where it takes us. In the beginning I will write about very basic and important topics related to Process Facilitation which than build up to the workshops and tasks for you guys to do on your own. Later on we can have discussions. To be a Facilitator you have to remember four simple rules. These are the rules that I studied. They are very simple and self explanatory. So I will keep the writing short and to the point. Rule No 1: Step Away from “Conveyor Belt”- hierarchies, linear production models and focus on “something else”. Something else means working in mixed teams and understanding group dynamic processes. I will write in more detail about team building and group dynamics in later posts. You might have noticed that you work in a circle; wake up go to office, comeback home, eat, sleep and it continues. In the offices it is also a same old way of work. The schools are no different. I studied the same Mathematics book that my teacher studied and was teaching for 26 years. This has to change and being Process Facilitator I...
